Policane - Dehydrated Sugar Cane Juice (454g)
✦ What is Policane?
In the warm valleys of Costa Rica, sugar cane grows tall and green, storing sunlight in its stalks as sweetness. When cane is refined into ordinary white sugar, most of the plant is spun and stripped away, until only white crystals remain.
Policane is what happens when nothing is thrown away. The fresh juice is pressed from the cane and gently dried whole, without refining or spinning, so the finished sugar still carries the character of the plant it came from. It is a natural, unrefined sweetener, extra fine and ready to use. It dissolves and measures much like ordinary sugar, yet it holds far more of the cane within it.
✦ How is Policane different from ordinary sugar?
Ordinary white sugar is refined and centrifuged: the cane juice is spun at high speed to separate out pure sucrose crystals, and the molasses, minerals and plant compounds are taken away. What remains is sweetness, and little else.
Policane is non-centrifuged. Because the whole juice is simply dried, the sugar keeps the naturally occurring minerals and policosanols present in the cane itself, along with the fuller, more caramel-like flavour typical of unrefined cane. In this it is closer to a traditional whole-cane sugar, such as panela or rapadura, than to refined white sugar. It also carries an independently measured low glycaemic index of 51.7, which you can read about above.
✦ Is Policane a low GI sugar?
Yes. The glycaemic index (GI) is a standardised, laboratory-measured scale of how quickly a carbohydrate food is digested and raises blood glucose. Foods scoring 55 or below are classified as low GI.
Policane has been independently tested at a GI of 51.7 (±3.66), placing it below that low-GI threshold and lower than refined white sugar (typically around 65). On that basis it is classified as a low-GI food under the international standard ISO 26642, in a test carried out by the accredited laboratory IFP Suisse SA in 2023.
This is a measured property of the sugar itself, established by standard method. It is a factual figure rather than a health claim, and individual responses to any food naturally vary.
✦ What's in Policane, and where is it from?
- 100% Pure Unrefined, Non-Centrifuged, Dried Sugar Cane Juice ~ Extra Fine
- From raw stalk to ready-to-use sugar, Policane is the result of incredible attention to detail. For the first time, all the goodness found in fresh sugar cane has been extracted and preserved
- An unrefined sugar that retains the naturally occurring nutrients, minerals and policosanols of the whole cane juice
- 3 US patents for preserving the policosanols naturally present in cane juice
Produced in Costa Rica from fresh Costa Rican sugar cane

✦ How do you use Policane?
Suggested Use:
- Use as you would do any normal sugar
- Will dissolve in any liquid with virtually no difference in nutritional content to fresh sugar cane juice
- For use as a policosanol supplement, use between 1 - 4 grams per day
(Dr. Raghavan of Nano Soma is so impressed with the policosanol content of Policane; he is endorsing Policane as a functional alternative to Nano Soma for daily support - meaning anyone not wishing to take Nano Soma can now easily and sweetly enjoy the naturally occurring policosanols of Policane instead)
" With our work on nano policosanols, in tandem with Jorge’s work at Policane, the story comes full circle. He has created the world’s best sugar. My congratulations to Jorge Enrique Gonzalez for this work ”
~ Dr. Raghavan, Nano Soma
