What is shungite and why is it so highly valued?

Shungite is a rare, carbon rich mineral found almost exclusively in the Karelia region of Russia. It is estimated to be around two billion years old and is the only known natural source of fullerenes (C60), spherical carbon molecules that have been the subject of extensive scientific research. Our shungite is sourced directly from Karelia and is available in several grades, including elite (noble) shungite with a carbon content above 90%. How does shungite purify water?

Shungite water purification is one of the most popular traditional uses of this mineral. When placed in water, shungite adsorbs organic and inorganic contaminants, heavy metals, and bacteria while releasing beneficial minerals.
