What is Mountain Jing (Polyrhachis Ant)?

Mountain Jing is our extract of the wild mountain ant, Polyrhachis vicina, one of the more unusual and treasured tonics in the Chinese tradition. The polyrhachis ant has been gathered from the forests of southern China for centuries and regarded as a Jing tonic, a herb of deep, foundational vitality, mentioned in the old Chinese pharmacopoeias.

Naturally rich in minerals, particularly zinc, it is offered here as a concentrated full spectrum extract. Please note this is an insect-derived product and is therefore not vegetarian or vegan.

What is a full spectrum extract, and why does it matter?

Our mountain jing is extracted with purified water, in line with the traditions of Chinese herbalism, using a gentle, temperature-controlled process matched to the herb's characteristics. This captures the naturally occurring compounds in the same proportions found in the herb itself, which is what makes it a true full spectrum extract rather than an isolated or standardised fraction.

The liquid extract is dried with fine spray technology into a micro-fine powder that dissolves easily into warm water. Nothing is added, and nothing is standardised away.

Where does our Mountain Jing come from?

Our polyrhachis ant is wild sourced from the mountain forests of China, gathered in the traditional way. We verify origin and batch quality directly with our supplier, and every batch is tested before it reaches you.

How do you take Mountain Jing Extract?

A daily serving is 1g, roughly half a level teaspoon. Stir into warm water, tea, plant milk or a smoothie. There is no brewing or steeping needed, the work has already been done in the extraction.

Your questions, answered

Is Mountain Jing really made from ants?

Yes. Mountain Jing is our extract of the wild mountain ant, Polyrhachis vicina. It may sound unusual, and it is one of the more unexpected tonics in the Chinese tradition, gathered from the forests of southern China for centuries and regarded there as a Jing tonic. Because it is drawn from an insect, our Mountain Jing is not vegetarian or vegan.

What you receive is a concentrated full spectrum extract of the ant itself, dried into a micro-fine powder, with nothing added.

Do you test your Mountain Jing for heavy metals?

Yes. Every batch is tested for purity, including heavy metals, pesticides and other contaminants, before it reaches you. Heavy metals are a fair thing to ask about with anything drawn from wild soil and forest, which is exactly why we test rather than assume.

You can view the current Certificate of Analysis for the full details.

What does the "10:1" on the label mean?

It is a measure of concentration. Our Mountain Jing is a 10:1 extract, so roughly 10g of the raw material goes into every 1g of finished powder. The extract is made with purified water, in the tradition of Chinese herbalism, using a gentle, temperature-controlled process, then dried into a micro-fine powder that dissolves easily into warm water.

It is a full spectrum extract, which means the naturally occurring compounds are kept in the proportions found in the source itself, rather than narrowed to a single standardised fraction. Nothing is added, and nothing is standardised away.

Why can it clump, and how should I store it?

Because our extract contains no anti-caking agents or humectants, the powder can draw in moisture from the air and firm up over time, especially once the jar has been opened. This is completely normal, and it is still perfectly good to use. Keep the jar sealed and away from steam and humidity. If it does set, break off a piece and crumble it, or let a small grinder loosen it in moments. It will still dissolve readily in warm water.

The dark glass helps protect the extract, so it keeps well when stored somewhere cool and dry.
