Tongkat Ali UK | Wild Harvested 10:1 Extract & How to Order

Want to order? Email hello@naviorganics.uk with the quantity and we will get back to you within one working day. Free UK delivery over £45.

What you receive: Wild harvested 10:1 dual extracted Tongkat Ali root powder, single ingredient, no fillers, Certificate of Analysis available on request.

Deep in the rainforests of Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, a slow growing evergreen tree quietly sends down its taproot year after year, gathering bitterness, gathering strength. The local name for it is Pasak Bumi. The Latin is Eurycoma longifolia. To the world that has come to know it more recently, it is Tongkat Ali. For hundreds of years across South-East Asia, the root has been simmered down into a daily tonic taken by men and women of older age, valued for the steady, grounded energy of well-prepared bitter herbs.

This page gathers the essentials in one place: what Tongkat Ali is, where ours comes from, how the 10:1 dual extract is made, how it has been traditionally taken, and how to order from us today.

How do I buy Tongkat Ali from Na'vi?

You may notice the product page no longer offers a direct add-to-cart button. This is because of platform-level changes around how certain herbal categories can be listed for direct online checkout. Nothing about our Tongkat Ali has changed at our end. We still source the same wild harvested 10:1 dual extract from the same trusted supplier, with the same Certificate of Analysis available on request. We are simply processing these orders manually now, so that we can keep offering it to our customers in the UK and beyond.

To place an order, write to hello@naviorganics.uk with the quantity you would like and your delivery address. We will reply with a payment link, usually within one working day. UK delivery is free over £45. International delivery is available; please mention your country and we will share the relevant rates.

What is Tongkat Ali?

Tongkat Ali is the root of Eurycoma longifolia, a slender evergreen tree that grows wild across the rainforests of Peninsular Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and parts of Vietnam. The tree itself is modest in appearance, rarely above ten metres, often growing in the dappled understory of older forest. What earns the plant its long history is what lies underground: a deep taproot that develops slowly over decades, accumulating the family of compounds that make Tongkat Ali distinct.

The plant carries several names depending on where you ask. In Malaysia it is Tongkat Ali (literally, Ali's walking stick, a reference to the upright tree). In Indonesia it is Pasak Bumi (earth peg). It is sometimes called Longjack in Western markets, or Malaysian Ginseng as a loose translation of how it is used in classical preparations, although it is not botanically related to true ginseng at all.

The taste is famously bitter. That bitterness comes from a family of compounds called quassinoids, including eurycomanone, which is the most studied of the plant's bioactive markers. Other markers include eurycomanol, eurylactones, and a group of canthin-6-one alkaloids. The full compound profile is complex, and this is part of the reason we have always carried a full spectrum extract rather than an isolated single-marker product.

Where is our Tongkat Ali sourced?

Our Tongkat Ali is wild harvested from mature trees in the Malaysian rainforest. Wild harvest in this context means trees that have grown naturally, not on a plantation, allowed to develop their root system across many years before being lifted. The roots we receive come from trees aged twenty-five years or more. This matters because the quassinoid content (the bitter, biologically active part of the plant) develops slowly and is at its richest in older roots.

After harvest the roots are cleaned, sliced, and air dried at low temperatures to preserve the heat-sensitive compounds. They are then sent for dual extraction (described in the next section). We work directly with the same Malaysian supplier we have used for years, and a Certificate of Analysis confirming purity and quassinoid content is available on request before or after your order.

Because the tree is slow growing and wild populations are not unlimited, we treat sourcing as a relationship rather than a transaction. We order in batch sizes that reflect actual demand, never speculatively, and we ask our supplier about their conservation practices each year.

What does "10:1 dual extracted" mean?

A dual extract uses both hot water and food-grade alcohol to capture the full range of Tongkat Ali's active compounds. Water draws out the water-soluble compounds including polysaccharides. Alcohol draws out the fat-soluble compounds including the bitter quassinoids that water alone cannot fully release. Combining both extractions, then drying the result back into a powder, gives you a finished product that preserves the full spectrum of the original root.

The 10:1 ratio means ten kilograms of fresh, dried, prepared root have been reduced down to one kilogram of finished extract powder. This is close to how Tongkat Ali has been traditionally prepared in South-East Asian herbalism: long, slow simmering of large quantities of root, reduced down to a concentrated decoction taken in small daily doses.

Why we do not sell 100:1 or 200:1 ratios

You will see Tongkat Ali on the market at 100:1, 200:1, and even 500:1 concentrations. These ratios are a relatively modern invention. They sound impressive, but the higher you push the concentration, the further you move from how Tongkat Ali has actually been used for hundreds of years. Traditional preparation has always been long, slow simmering of whole root, closer to a 10:1 reduction than a hyper-concentrated isolate.

Hyper-concentrated extracts also tend to be standardised to a single marker, usually eurycomanone, which means the rest of the compound family is partially or fully removed during processing. We have chosen to carry the full spectrum 10:1 because it is closer to the traditional preparation and because the whole compound matrix matters more than any single isolated marker. The bitterness is part of the herb. So is the patience.

What does the research on Tongkat Ali explore?

Tongkat Ali is one of the more researched South-East Asian tonic herbs, with published studies looking at how it interacts with hormonal balance, stress response markers, and physical performance, particularly in older adults. The research is ongoing, and we are careful not to overstate what it has so far shown. As an Eastern tonic herb sold in the UK, Tongkat Ali is a food supplement, not a medicine, and is not intended to diagnose or treat any condition.

If you would like to read the published research independently, search PubMed for "Eurycoma longifolia" or "eurycomanone". This will return peer-reviewed studies covering the areas above. We do not link to specific papers because the field continues to develop and we prefer customers form their own view based on the current literature and conversations with their own practitioners.

For personal guidance about whether Tongkat Ali is right for your individual circumstances, please consult a qualified holistic practitioner or your doctor.

How do I take Tongkat Ali extract?

A typical daily serving is half to one gram (roughly a quarter to half a level teaspoon), stirred into warm water, plant milk, coffee, or a smoothie. The flavour is strongly bitter, so most customers either pair it with cacao and a touch of honey, or take it briefly in a small amount of water and follow with a sweeter drink. A small spoon of raw honey on the tongue immediately after often helps with the aftertaste.

Many customers prefer to take Tongkat Ali in cycles rather than continuously: several weeks on, followed by one or two weeks off. This is in keeping with how most tonic herbs are taken in classical Eastern herbalism, where the body is given periodic rest to maintain sensitivity to the herb. There is no single correct schedule. Listening to your own response, and consulting a practitioner if anything feels off, will always serve you better than a fixed protocol.

Who should avoid Tongkat Ali

Tongkat Ali is not recommended for:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • Children and adolescents
  • Anyone undergoing hormonal therapy without first speaking with their practitioner
  • Anyone with a diagnosed hormonal condition without medical supervision
  • Anyone preparing for surgery (stop two weeks beforehand)

If you are taking any prescribed medication, please discuss with your doctor before adding Tongkat Ali to your routine.

Common questions about Tongkat Ali

How long does it take to feel the effects of Tongkat Ali?

Tongkat Ali is a tonic herb rather than an acute stimulant, so the response builds gradually. Many customers describe noticing something after two to three weeks of daily use. Some feel a shift sooner, others later. The bitterness is felt immediately; the deeper effects unfold over time.

Can women take Tongkat Ali?

Tongkat Ali is often described as a men's herb, but in its traditional South-East Asian context it has been taken by both men and women of older age, particularly for hormonal balance during perimenopause and beyond. Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who have hormonal conditions should consult a practitioner first.

Is your Tongkat Ali organic?

Our Tongkat Ali is wild harvested, not cultivated. Wild harvested herbs cannot carry organic certification because there is no managed land or farming practice to certify. What we can confirm is that the trees grow in their native rainforest habitat without pesticides, fertilisers or human management, and that a Certificate of Analysis is available on request to verify purity and active compound content.

How should I store Tongkat Ali extract?

Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. The glass jar we ship in is ideal. If you keep it dry, the extract will hold its potency for the full shelf life printed on the jar.

Why is your Tongkat Ali more expensive than what I see on Amazon?

Three reasons. First, ours is wild harvested from mature trees (25 years or older), not plantation grown. Second, ours is dual extracted in a 10:1 ratio that preserves the full compound spectrum, not a hyper-concentrated single-marker isolate. Third, we work directly with our supplier, in small batches, with traceability and Certificate of Analysis. Lower priced extracts on marketplaces are most often plantation grown, single-marker standardised, and traded through several layers of middlemen.

Can I take Tongkat Ali with other tonic herbs?

Yes. Tongkat Ali combines well with most of the tonic herbs we carry. Many customers cycle it alongside He Shou Wu or Cistanche depending on the season or what they feel they need. If you are combining several herbs, start with smaller individual doses and observe how you feel before stacking them at full serving size.

Looking for a similar herb?

If Tongkat Ali is not the right fit, we also carry several wild harvested tonic herbs in the same energising, masculine-yang family:

  • Desert Cistanche, wild harvested, dual extracted 10:1, used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for endurance and vitality
  • Safed Musli, wild harvested Indian root, traditionally taken for vitality
  • He Shou Wu, long simmered for ninety hours, one of the most revered longevity tonics in Chinese herbalism
