Yá Pearl · Botanical Mineral Toothpaste · Dual Hydroxyapatite
✧ What is Yá Pearl?
Yá Pearl is a botanical mineral toothpaste, hand-blended in small batches at our Highland workshop near Loch Shiel. A mineral toothpaste that cleans and freshens, helps remove plaque as you brush, and supports your mouth's everyday mineral balance.
The character 牙 (Yá) is one of the oldest in the Chinese language, an oracle bone script written some three thousand years ago, picturing two tusks meeting. It means tooth, fang, ivory: the body's hardest mineral. Pearl is its complement, the slow mineral of the sea, layered for years inside an oyster shell. Earth and sea. Tusk and tide.
At its heart are two minerals your body already knows: hydroxyapatite, a form of the calcium mineral that tooth enamel itself is made of, and pearl, aragonite, the same mineral nacre is built from. Around them, a quiet circle of botanicals and a rare wild-harvested frankincense, carried in an anhydrous oil base with no water at all. No fluoride, no SLS, no sweeteners.
✧ What's in Yá Pearl?
The mineral core
- Hydroxyapatite, a form of the calcium mineral that naturally makes up tooth enamel, milled to two particle sizes.
- Levigated Pearl, finely milled and mostly aragonite (a form of calcium carbonate), which naturally carries trace minerals such as magnesium, strontium and manganese. The same pearl as our Levigated Pearl Powder.
- Mined sodium bicarbonate, gently alkaline; as it meets saliva it helps neutralise everyday acids in the mouth, supporting a balanced oral pH.
The botanical circle
- Honeysuckle and Patchouli, long used in traditional herbal care, patchouli for its fresh, astringent note.
- Psoralea and pure Bakuchiol, its oil-soluble heart (98%, CO₂-extracted). Psoralea has a long history in Ayurvedic and Unani herbal tradition.
- Cocoa extract, a natural source of theobromine.
- Black Frankincense (Boswellia neglecta) at 0.5%, the same rare, freely-yielded resin as our Black Frankincense oil.
The base
Single-estate biodynamic castor oil from Homa Farm, expeller-pressed and unrefined, holds everything in suspension. That is the whole formula: minerals, plants, and an oil to carry them.

✧ What makes the formula unusual?
Most toothpastes are mostly water, which means they need synthetic emulsifiers, foaming agents and preservatives to hold together. Yá Pearl is anhydrous, oil-based, with no water at all. The minerals stay dry and the botanicals stay stable in the jar; nothing needs preserving because there is nothing for microbes to live in.
- No fluoride
- No SLS (no foaming agents)
- No sweeteners, artificial or otherwise
- No preservatives, none needed in a waterless paste
It will not foam like a conventional paste. That is the point: what you are brushing with is minerals and plants, not lather.
✧ How do you use Yá Pearl?
Brush morning and night, two minutes, gentle pressure. Spit, don't rinse, to leave a light mineral film on the teeth. Safe to swallow in normal use, though spitting is best practice for any toothpaste.
You can also work a small amount along the gumline with a clean fingertip after brushing. A little goes a long way, so the jar lasts.
✧ Where is Yá Pearl made, and where do the ingredients come from?
Yá Pearl is hand-blended in small batches at our Highland workshop near Loch Shiel, traceable to its source and made for daily ritual rather than quick fix.
The Black Frankincense is Boswellia neglecta from Kenya, collected from trees that release their resin freely, without tapping or wounding the bark, one of the rarest and most ethically harvested frankincenses in the world. The castor oil is biodynamically grown on a single estate at Homa Farm. Read how we source.
