Stingless Bee Honey - 10ml
✧ What is stingless bee honey?
If you think you know honey, this will surprise you. There is a honey so rare that most people will never taste it, made by tiny bees that do not sting.
In the forests of East Africa live the stingless bees, no bigger than a grain of rice. Too small to build the familiar honeycomb, they gather their honey into little round pots of wax and tree resin, deep inside hollow trees. Because they are so small, they reach the tiniest flowers the larger bees cannot, and the honey they make is like nothing else: thinner and more golden, with a bold, complex flavour and a beautiful dance of sweet and sour.
It is one of the only foods in the world naturally rich in trehalulose, a rare sugar found in almost nothing else. And because each tiny colony makes so little, true stingless honey is among the rarest honeys on earth.
✧ Who gathers our stingless honey?
Our stingless honey comes from the forests of Northern Tanzania, where it is gathered by Maasai women.
It is part of a project that has helped Maasai women build their own beekeeping, tending the wild colonies and harvesting the honey by hand. The work brings a living to the women and their families, and gives the forest and its bees a lasting value, a real reason to protect both.
Because the bees are so small and make so little, the honey comes in tiny quantities. Every precious bottle is gathered by hand, in small batches, by the women who know these forests best.
✧ What's in our stingless honey?
Ingredients
100% Pure - Stingless Bee Honey
- 100% pure, raw stingless bee honey (pot honey)
- Wild-gathered by Maasai women in Northern Tanzania
- Naturally rich in trehalulose, a rare sugar
- Thinner and runnier than ordinary honey, with a natural sweet-and-sour character
- Nothing added, nothing taken away
A note on its nature: because stingless honey holds more moisture than ordinary honey, it is naturally runnier and can gently ferment over time, which is part of its living character, not a fault. Keep it somewhere cool. Product carefully gathered in Northern Tanzania. Click here for info on our sourcing policy.
✧ What does stingless honey taste like?
This is a honey for people who love big, complex flavours.
Where ordinary honey is simply sweet, stingless honey is sweet and sour at once, bright and tangy, almost like a honey crossed with a squeeze of citrus. Beneath it lies a deep, floral complexity, gathered from a thousand tiny wildflowers. It is thinner on the spoon, more like a nectar than a thick honey, and a single taste lingers and unfolds.
If you have only ever known supermarket honey, the first spoonful is a revelation.
✧ How do you enjoy it?
This is a rare and precious honey, so a little is meant to be savoured.
- A spoonful on its own: the simplest way, and the best place to begin. Let a small spoonful rest on the tongue and taste it slowly.
- Drizzled: over yoghurt, fruit, cheese or porridge, where its sweet-and-sour brightness comes alive.
- Stirred into a drink: into warm (not boiling) water, tea or a tonic, to keep its delicate, living character.
Keep it somewhere cool. As a raw, living honey it may crystallise or gently ferment over time, which is natural and no cause for concern.
