We have realised that many of our customers are unaware that Royal Mail automatically enrols all recipients in the Royal Mail Safeplace Delivery Option, which means the postie may leave parcels at a location at the address if no one is home to accept delivery.
Customers can opt out of the Royal Mail Safeplace policy by downloading the Royal Mail App and setting their delivery preferences there, ensuring parcels are not left in a safe place when they are out. Alternatively, to opt out of having your mail left with neighbours, you can fill in an online form on the Royal Mail website and display the sticker on or near your letterbox.
Using the Royal Mail App
- Download the Royal Mail App: Get the app on your smartphone or tablet.
- Log in or create an account: Sign in to your existing account or set one up if you are a new user.
- Manage delivery preferences: Go to your account settings and look for the section to manage them.
- Set Safeplace to "off": Choose the option to opt out of Safeplace so that alternative delivery methods are used when you are not home.
Using the Opt Out Sticker
- Complete the online form: Visit the Royal Mail website and fill in the form to request an opt-out sticker for deliveries left with a neighbour.
- Display the sticker: Once you receive the sticker, place it somewhere clearly visible on or near your letterbox.
- Receive alternative delivery: This sticker will signal to the post person that they should not leave your mail with a neighbour.
