Ashwagandha Root Powder - HOMA Organic Grown
✧ What is HOMA-grown Ashwagandha?
On the small HOMA farm in India where our ashwagandha is grown, the day opens and closes with fire ceremonies. Through these sunrise and sunset ceremonies, offerings are made to the land, and the air and environment are tended as carefully as the soil.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is one of the most treasured herbs of Ayurveda, held close for thousands of years and counted among the rasayanas, the rejuvenating tonics. Its name comes from the Sanskrit for the smell of a horse, for the earthy scent of the fresh root.
We use only the root, ground slowly to a fine powder, single-source and pure.
✧ Why do people take Ashwagandha?
Ashwagandha is best known as a calming, grounding herb, the one to reach for when life feels like a great deal at once. It is an adaptogen, traditionally taken to help the body meet stress and find its way back to steadiness.
Many take it in the evening, stirred into warm milk, to unwind and settle into deeper, more restful sleep. Others take it through busy, demanding stretches, for a steadier kind of energy that builds slowly rather than spiking.

✧ What is HOMA (Agnihotra) farming?
HOMA farming honours the land as a living being. Rooted in Ayurveda, it is both a science and a sacred ritual, performed at sunrise and at sunset.
Most farming tends only the soil. HOMA farming goes further, recognising that a plant is nourished as much by the atmosphere around it as by the earth below. Organic HOMA preparations feed the land while the daily Agnihotra fire ceremonies purify the air, raising every plant within an energetic field of abundant vitality, a vitality carried through into the produce we harvest.
We are blessed to work with a very special HOMA farm in India, and we love sharing their harvest.
✧ How do you take Ashwagandha?
In India, ashwagandha is famously taken in the evening, stirred into warm milk with a little honey and ghee.
- Start gently, building to around 1 teaspoon (approx 2g) a day.
- Up to 6g a day can be taken, worked up to slowly so the body has time to adapt.
- Lovely stirred into warm milk, a cacao, or simply hot water, morning or evening.
These amounts are general suggestions and do not account for your age, weight, health, or other supplements or medications you may be taking. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or under medical care, please speak with a qualified practitioner first.
Ashwagandha sits naturally beside our other HOMA-grown herbs, such as Safed Musli. For more on how it is grown, visit our guide to HOMA organic farming.
