What is HOMA-grown Moringa?

Our moringa leaves are picked young from trees grown on a HOMA farm in India, where the day opens and closes with fire ceremonies. The leaves are dried in the shade and ground gently into a deep green powder, drying out of the sun helps the leaf hold its colour and character.

The moringa tree (Moringa oleifera) is known across many cultures as the Tree of Life, for its resilience: it grows and even flourishes through drought and hard conditions where other crops would fail. Its leaves have been eaten as a nourishing food for generations.

Why do people take Moringa?

Moringa is, first and foremost, a food, one of the most nourishing leaves there is. For generations it has been eaten to round out a simple diet, which is how it earned its place as the Tree of Life.

It is an easy green to live with: a spoonful stirred into a smoothie or juice each day. The flavour is earthy and green, a little like spinach, and a small amount goes a long way.

What is HOMA (Agnihotra) farming?

HOMA farming honours the land as a living being. Rooted in Ayurveda, it is both a science and a sacred ritual, performed at sunrise and at sunset.

Most farming tends only the soil. HOMA farming goes further, recognising that a plant is nourished as much by the atmosphere around it as by the earth below. Organic HOMA preparations feed the land while the daily Agnihotra fire ceremonies purify the air, raising every plant within an energetic field of abundant vitality, a vitality carried through into the produce we harvest.

We are blessed to work with a very special HOMA farm in India, and we love sharing their harvest.

How do you use Moringa powder?

A little goes a long way. Around 1 teaspoon a day is plenty.

  • Stir into water or juice, or blend into a smoothie, where its green, earthy flavour sits well against fruit.
  • Fold it into cooking towards the end, as high heat dulls a fresh leaf, so add it late.
  • A small spoonful can be taken straight, washed down with water. Take care not to breathe in the fine powder.
