✧ What is Turkey Tail?
Turkey tail (Coriolus versicolor, also called Trametes versicolor) is one of the most common mushrooms in the world, a thin, fan-shaped bracket fungus that grows in overlapping tiers on fallen hardwood, banded in concentric rings of brown, tan and cream like the tail of a wild turkey. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is known as yun zhi, the "cloud mushroom", and has been brewed as a tea for centuries.

✧ How is our Turkey Tail extract made?
Only the fruiting bodies are used. The mushrooms are extracted in purified water in line with the traditions of Chinese herbalism, using a gentle temperature-controlled process, then dried with fine spray technology into a micro-fine 10:1 powder that dissolves cleanly back into warm water or any liquid. Nothing is added, and nothing is standardised away.
✧ How do you take and order Turkey Tail?
1g (approx half a level teaspoon) with warm water, or added to your favourite tea, smoothie or beverage of choice. It can also be sprinkled on salad or hot foods.
Turkey Tail is currently available to order by email rather than through the cart. Read the full guide and ordering instructions here, or email hello@naviorganics.uk with the quantity you would like.

✧ Your questions, answered
› Is your Turkey Tail made from the fruiting body or the mycelium?
Ours is made only from the fruiting body, the visible fan-shaped bracket that grows on fallen hardwood. It is a 100% pure fruiting body extract of Coriolus versicolor, not mycelium grown on grain. That distinction matters, because some mushroom powders are myceliated grain, where the mushroom is grown on rice or oats and the whole lot is dried and milled together, starch and all. Ours carries no grain or starchy filler of that kind.
It is a 10:1 full spectrum extract, so roughly ten parts of the mushroom go into one part of finished powder, with no fillers or bulking agents added.
› Is it standardised to a percentage of beta-glucans?
No, and that is a deliberate choice. We do not standardise our Turkey Tail to a set percentage of any single compound, and we do not test for the level of one constituent such as beta-glucans. A headline percentage can look impressive on a label, yet standardising to one fraction means narrowing the extract down to that single part.
We prefer to keep the full spectrum of the mushroom's naturally occurring compounds, in the proportions the fruiting body grew them. That is what full spectrum means, and it is why nothing is standardised away. What we do test for is purity: every batch is checked for heavy metals, pesticides and other contaminants, and you can view the current Certificate of Analysis.
› Is there any alcohol in the extract, and how is it made?
There is no alcohol in our Turkey Tail. It is a water extract. Only the fruiting bodies are used, extracted in purified water using a gentle, temperature-controlled process, then dried with fine spray technology into a micro-fine 10:1 powder. Nothing is added, and the powder dissolves cleanly back into warm water, tea, a smoothie or any drink you like.
Some of our other extracts are dual extracts, made with both water and alcohol. Turkey Tail is prepared with water alone, in keeping with the way it has traditionally been brewed as a tea for centuries.
› How should I store it, and why can it clump?
Because our Turkey Tail contains no anti-caking agents, bulking agents or humectants, the fine powder naturally draws in a little moisture from the air and can firm up over time, especially once the jar has been opened. This is normal, and the powder is still perfectly good to use.
Keep the jar sealed and away from steam and humidity, somewhere cool and dry rather than above the kettle or hob. If it does set firm, break a piece off and crumble it, or give it a moment in warm water, where it dissolves more smoothly than in cold.
› Can I give Turkey Tail to my dog or other pets?
Our Turkey Tail is prepared as a food supplement for people, and we are not able to advise on giving it to animals. We are asked this often, and we understand why, but we would always point you to your vet, who knows your animal and can advise on what is right for them.
For yourself, it is a simple daily powder, taken with warm water or stirred into your drink of choice.
